Album: Noah and the Whale

"Everyone has one chance to fuck up their lives.."

The First Days Of Spring breaks my heart every single time I listen. At first, I thought it was the type of music that would happily send me to sleep-with its gentle vocals and non offensive melodies. But it contains far too much emotion for this. All it does is make me toss and turn thinking about how I never want to feel as shit as Charlie Fink did when he wrote these 11 tracks. In all honesty I don't think I have ever heard such brutal honesty, most people aren't willing to expose themsleves without the safety blanket of metaphors and clever rhetoric. Laura Marling must be really something.

"This is the last song I write while still in love with you..."

Noah and the Whale must be standing around wondering how they got jipped...fellow London folk scensters Mumford and Sons have stolen their lime light and their girl.

Relator

"Now You're Away and I Write Home Every Day"

It's hard to find the time to listen to new music when you're travelling, let along write about it. But it's also hard to watch television in a country where you don't speak the language. Which is why stumbling accross an hour or so of music videos is a rather magical thing. I wish I could say that as a result I have fallen in love with Parisian rap or a grunge band from Lyon...but alas not yet. I have, however, developed a bit of a fondness for Scarlet Johansson's duet with singer songwriter with Pete Yorn which has apparently only just found its way into the French mainstream. Relator was released on the album Break Up almost a year ago...so no prizes for spotting the "next big thing" but regardless, this track is very much sexy and soulful, so get into it.
