Cut Copy

Breath shortened. Heart beating faster. Massive cliche I know, but this is literally what happened the second I saw Cut Copy had released a track from their upcoming third album. Obviously I was excited, but also prepared for the new stuff to fall maybe a little short of the greatness that has been the past two albums. Nup! This track is amazing. The harmonies immediately make me think of Animal Collective so totally not surprised to see the boys are working with the same producer Ben Allen. The really really 80's vibe of previous stuff has gone, but it's still a massive throw back to the past few decades, it's just a little harder to pick exactly where it fits in. Can't wait to: (a) hear some remixes, (b) get my hands on the album and (c) see the new stuff in the flesh.

Ze Remixes

Although for some reason I get a bit if flak about it, I love Van She and sorta raved about their 2008 debut release V. I was in Brisbane over the weekend and was hoping to catch the boys play on their Ze Remixes tour. Basically, they have done what Duran Duran, Soulwax and Bloc Party have done before them and remixed their album (almost) in its in entirety. To be honest, this would be far from a challenge as the four piece as they spend a good deal of their time working the club scene as Van She Tech, and it is this dirty techno sound that appears on most of the tracks. However, they aint just a one trick pony as they have also thrown in a pretty sweet acoustic version of Virgin Suicide and a total newy Techno Music.

Destination Digital Love Revisited

I have always been particularly partial to the softer, cleaner and more melodic Daft Punk tunes. So when I heard something that to me sounded very similar to the soft robotic tones of Digital Love I thought maybe Daft Punk had returned and I had missed the hype. But I knew this would be impossible. Instead it is Damn Arms who I think I remember seeing in support of Cut Copy at The Metro a few years ago and really loving.
