British India
Melbourne band British India released their second studio album Theives on July 19 and I was pretty excited for it as I really enjoyed their first release Gullotine. I expected a similar brand of pop-rock with memorable guitar riffs and Declan Melia's unique vocals that can turn from choir boy to footy fan in a manner of seconds. But I reckon they sorta lost the pop aspect by turning up the guitar and increasing the screaming in the vocals, making the album a little bit less easy to listen. It's still good, with some stand-out tracks but it does feel as though the band is moving in a heavier direction.
I heard a funny interview with the boys on the radio dicussing the track This Dance Is Loaded. Apparently a "loaded" dancer is a girl who goes on the dance floor and starts dancing until a guy comes up to her and starts dancing with her. Once they're dancing and having fun, her boyfriend comes up and says hey your dancing with my girlfriend and then just starts punching on! So the whole thing is just a plot created so some guy can vent his boozy agression and bash up some poor guy. Crazy, but apparentlty true. Anyway, in this interview they commented that this track was written specifically as a pop-single. I find this really strange as it sounds alot less poppy and sing-a-longish than tracks off their last album like Tie Up My Hands and Run the Red Light.
The first single off this album is I Said I'm Sorry and it also happens to be my favourite. Not suprisingly, I think it sounds most similar to their previous album.
