Santogold & M.I.A

I loved Santogold from the first time I heard Les Artistes and when I learnt that she hangs out and plays with M.I.A I loved her just a little bit more. People keep saying that Santogold is just a bad imitation of M.I.A but I don't think they sound that similar, nor that either is bad. M.I.A has this really laid back British vibe, where as Santogold is a little more intense and has the Yankee twang. For me the similarity between them lies in the same brand of coolness they ooze which can be seen in their videos and life performances.

So I was very happy to hear a collaberation between these two , though it wasn't quite what I expected. They join up with gangster rapper Gorilla Zoe which makes for a pretty dark sounding track, which is a little removed from the quite boppy stuff that they've done before. The girls dont come in until half way through and this is when the track starts to sound good.

There are quite alot of Diplo remixes of Santogold tracks floating around at the moment. And I just hope that the fact that she is hanging out with M.I.A's ex isn't going to drive a wedge between their awesome partnership.

In other Santogold news the My Drive Thru video finally dropped and I didn't even notice! It's not what I expected, but I still think its a pretty cool watch. But like I said before, what more could you expect from these three?
