The Killers

Close Your Eyes, Clear Your Heart

I know Stuart Price pretty well, and chances are you do too. I know him as Les Rythmes Digitales, who did a nice little remix of Cassius's Feelings For You. I know him as Thin White Duke-god father to What Else is There? by Royksopp, which has just got to be one of the funnest dance songs ever. And I also know him as Jacques Lu Cont, as which he is probably most famous for his Grammy nominated down-tempo electrified (elect-oni-fied?)mix of Mr Brightside. I take it he doesn't like the name Stuart much!

Obviously Brandon Flowers and gang enjoyed their work with Price, because The Killers upcoming third studio album Day & Age has been produced by him. This probably means that fans should expect a release more like last years compilation release Sawdust, of which Price had a hand in three tracks, rather than the more traditional indie-rock sounds of 2004's Hot Fuss.

When ever I see one of Stuart Price's many pseudonyms I get mighty excited in anticipation of a heavy base line, a focus on the electronic elements and then most of the remaining sounds being turned down. I worry how this production is going to fit in with an entire Killer's album, as I would hate to say goodbye to the drum kit and guitar riffs. At the end of the day, I really like the Jacques Lu Cont remix of Mr. Brightside. But I would still always take the original.

Day & Age is set for release on November 24. The first single Human is already upon us and, "producer" aside, it is good.
