Metronomy

A friend told me to check out Metronomy. I had never heard of them. I should have 'cos they are very very gooood. I also should have 'cos these fellas have been playing like it's 1999 SINCE 1999. Metronomy are three guys from Devon, England who have released a handful of singles and a shitload of remixes.

They've added their relaxed electronic vibe to tracks by Goldfrapp, Klaxons, Sebastien Tellier and CSS to name a few. If you added Lo-Fi Fnk to that list I reckon you would also have a pretty good idea of what Metronomy's second and latest album Nights Out sounds like.

Heartbreaker is a great song, but despite never having heard of Metronomy before I found myself singing along with the words on my first listening and felt it sounded very familiar. Maybe it's just a catchy song? Maybe I've heard it out and about? I just dunno. This is probably the most approachable of their tunes, with some of the others being slightly on the obscure side with jarring riffs and screechy falsettos (i.e. Holiday )that may not be everyones thing.

One of the worst things is when you discover a band you like, only to find that they played in your city last month, last week or last night! You're going to have to wait like a whole year to see them play. One of the best things is when you discover that band and find that they are coming to you in a matter of weeks.

If you live in Sydney your in luck! Metronomy are playing at Sydney Festival's Becks Bar on January 15 and are supported by the fantasmic Pivot. What better! Tickets are available at Ticketek.
